Let’s have a look at what is going to be the most cost effective route to heat a house. Will it be using an electric portable heater or actually turning on your central heating system? Well, it all depends on the areas that you’re trying to heat up.
The insulation levels matter and the occupancy of the house also matters. However, it all depends on if you’re just trying to heat a specific zone or a specific room. If you’re trying to create heat in a small zone or even just a small room, then a portable heating system is going to be the better option to go with. However, remember that’s the only room that’s going to keep warm. If you’re just trying to sleep and you live alone, turn on that portable space heater. That way, all the unoccupied rooms aren’t going to have central heat coming out.
However, if other rooms in the house are occupied, then definitely turn on the central AC instead of having space heaters in each one of those rooms, because you’re going to be drawing a lot of amperage. You’re going to use a lot of electricity. Since portable heaters already require a lot of electricity compared to a central AC or central heating system, I would recommend instead turning on the gas fired central heating system. It’s going to consume a lot less electricity compared to having space heaters at each individual room or outlet or anyone that’s going to be occupying that area.
The central heating system is the way to go to have total comfort and save on your utility bills.
